What are LCD cables for?

LCD cables are used to connect the motherboard (graphics card) to the LCD screen, web camera and microphone, and also to the LCD screen touchscreen layer. How can LCD cables be damaged?

HOW CAN LCD LCD CABLES BE DAMAGED?

The LCd cable leads along the left or right hinge to the LCD screen frame. This replacement part is usually damaged mechanically when opening and closing the laptop. LCD cables can also be damaged when the laptop falls leading to hinge damage, with the cable being torn, broken or cut.

HOW TO TELL IF THE LCD CABLE IS DAMAGED

LCD cable defects are seen, e.g. when the screen flickers when moving the LCD screen cover (when opening or closing your laptop). It may only be certain colours which flicker on the display, or the whole screen can break up or entirely disappear. The web camera or microphone may not work correctly. The LCD cable can also be tested, which is the best way to determine if it is defective, since the defect may also be in the laptop motherboard meaning you would be replacing the LCD cable for no reason. As such it is very important to diagnose the defect correctly. Please bear in mind that these repairs and diagnoses should only be undertaken by a qualified person.
